Centrelink offers a crisis payment that can be paid in addition to your regular payment for extreme cases such as domestic violence. This payment is equal to one week’s payment and is limited to 4 payments in any 12-month period. You don’t have to have left the home to be entitled to the crisis payment but the perpetrator of the violence must no longer be living there. VERY IMPORTANT: You only have 7 days to request this payment from when you separate from the violent partner.

Centrelink can discuss a range of options that are available to you if in a domestic violence situation, taking into account your overall needs and providing appropriate service. For more information or to claim the crisis payment visit your nearest customer service centre or call the employment services line on 13 28 50.
